A blog is nothing but a commentary written as one would write in a diary. It has content and links to articles on other websites. All these are usually displayed as a list of entries in reverse chronological order. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects. How can you publish a blog and make sure it is out there to reach as many people as possible? You would need a content management system. Wordpress is one such content management system. It's easy-to-use, powerful, user-friendly and flexible. Within a few minutes a beautiful blog can be generated without knowing a single word of code.

One of the first prerequisites to publishing a blog would be to have a website and a registered domain name. There are 2 ways of doing this. One is using the free version of blog creation and hosting at https://wordpress.com. The other one is going with self-hosting. Unless there is absolutely no budget for a website, it is better to go with the self-hosted option because a self-hosted website gives many more features and customization capabilities like modifying the theme, customizing the post, using different plugins, advertising etc. If you go with the self hosting choice, you would need a hosting company. There are many to choose from such as Bluehost, Godaddy, Siteground, etc. They provide many choices for hosting but make sure you pick the most basic one in the beginning. It is usually sufficient.

Once the payment and other formalities are done, you can login to your cPanel and install Wordpress. This process is easy and self explanatory. You will then get a message for viewing your credentials like username, password, link to the website etc. Login through that link and you will be directed to the Wordpress dashboard which is the main page for creating and editing posts, pages, etc. Now, you are all set for adding new posts and making a dynamic blog.

Whenever you add a new post, it gets published on the blog page. After all the technical aspects are taken care of, it is time to choose the topic and start writing. Bear in mind that depending on the topic, you should have a ‘key word’ which pertains to the main theme of your commentary. It is very important to examine your writing for keyword density (percentage of keywords). This can be done using a plugin. People have the habit of skimming through pages, hence it is important to grab the reader’s attention in a small period of time. Therefore key points must be emphasized by highlighting/bolding/quotation marks etc. A well optimized intriguing header will certainly hook the reader.

Once the content is done, add links (that work), relevant images with attributes, etc. On the main page, only a part of the blog post is displayed.  this is called the excerpt. This has to be crisp and to the point so that it entices the reader to read further. The permalinks should be customized to contain the keywords.

Creating a website, and maintaining it, is an art and with the advancements in technology, it is a continually evolving area of study. It is very important to be knowledgeable and informed about the latest trends and technologies. Once you are aware of all the requirements, you will know the amount of time and effort involved in maintaining a website. All the effort pays off when you succeed in creating a useful, interesting blog/website which is being read and appreciated by many people all around the world.
