Why is there a need to optimize your website for voice search? What is Voice Search and its impact on Search Engine Optimization, read our blog

Advancement in voice technology is leading to a change in customer behavior. As a result, businesses are required to change their SEO strategies. It is not only the optimization of website that is needed, social media, videos, business listings, etc. all required attention. Artificial Intelligence has played a big role in the revolution of today’s Voice Search

Artificial Intelligence to Adaptive Intelligence

“Your brand needs to have its own agents that can talk directly to customers and to converse across multiple digital assistants.” –Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO.

As the numbers grow, Conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) will continue to weave itself into the world around us. How? By surrounding us with adaptive intelligence that knows us and works to fulfill our individual needs.

From scheduling our next doctor’s appointment to controlling our thermostat to ordering our favorite food, search engines are morphing into personal digital assistants such as Siri, Google, Alexa, and Cortana.

It’s helpful to think of digital assistants, chatbots, and other forms of intelligent agents as invisible bridges, connecting us with a cloud-based knowledge graph. They are ready to fulfill user intent from smallest to largest of levels.

Voice technology

Tech companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Google ad Apple are competing to deliver the most useful conversational AI tools and services. Amazon and Google, in particular, are looking at new industries and investments into search and natural language processing (NLP) capabilities.

Google is releasing voice capability in over 30 languages, is moving into areas like healthcare and travel, and looking to develop its AI technology Duplex to enable “natural conversations.”

Amazon, the early device leader, is looking to expand Alexa’s reach beyond the home through auto integration.

Microsoft and Apple are focusing on developing patents to dig into privacy and security, factors that are still hampering voice, with Microsoft going so far as to patent a way to whisper commands into smart devices.

Facebook had taken a backseat in the past few years, but finally decided to jump into the voice space with its smart speaker Portal. The voice recognition space is expected to reach $49B, according to CB Insights’ industry analyst consensus.

So, what does that mean for SEO?

Basics of SEO still play a very important role in voice search but there are several other factors that have a huge impact.

  • Fast loading websites have an advantage in Google Voice Search Results. Backlinko also found out that the time it took for a search result page to load completely (4.6 seconds) was significantly faster than most pages (8.8 seconds).

  • Secured websites (HTTPS) may give a slight edge over other websites.
  • Content that is easy to read and understand ranks better in voice search. Google’s Search speech lays emphasis on elocution. The easier the content, the better elocution.
  • Higher a page ranks for a specific keyword, the more likely Google will choose that page as voice result. A page with a solid SEO will have better chances to show for voice search.
  • Having a FAQ page helps to rank better in voice search because of its question-answer format. Quora is a perfect example of FAQ based website.

Featured snippets

Another very important aspect is to create Keyword -optimized snippets that answers the questions asked by people on voice search. The best way is to start using the trigger words . 20% of voice search results begin with these words.

The features snippets also have an option to display videos that help to optimize the website with more options than just written content. Also, the snippets should not be very long. The written content with paragraphs having four to five lines needs to be changed.

Answer the public is a very interesting website. It helps to provide insights on commonly asked questions through search engines. Hence it helps in creating content providing answers for anticipated questions.

Voice search may be newer, but it’s already playing an important role in the way SEO is accomplished. One simply can’t ignore to implement basic SEO practices like optimizing your content like featured snippets, page loading time, and using videos and images, back-links and social media presence. All of these efforts will help to appear higher in rank for a voice search.
